Company

"Theatre Unlocked have chosen not to rest on their laurels and wait for the phone to ring but have, instead, created their own work. They are passionate, brave, dedicated. We could not have wished for a greater company and production to be the flag bearers for our new initiative"

Simon Naylor about Theatre Unlocked
Theatre Unlocked is a queer-led theatre company focused on exploring gender and sexuality through exciting and engaging new writing. We are primarily focused on presenting stories which have otherwise not been widely represented. At the beginning of 2018 we were awarded the first 53two FOUNDation award, a scheme set up to acknowledge the most promising new theatre companies in Manchester. Since then, we have completed a successful run at both the Edinburgh Festival Fringe with our first production, Flushed which was later performed at the Barbican Centre in London as part of Fertility Fest 2019. This was a production about Premature Ovarian Insufficiency entirely set in female toilets. We worked closely with The Daisy Network, the only UK charity dedicated to the cause, to raise both money for and awareness of this condition. Flushed performed to sell out crowds and gained numerous five star reviews, with The Voice Magazine stating: “it is shows like this that make the fringe worth it.” The success of this production paved the way for Theatre Unlocked to be able to continue making work of this calibre.
